Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are crazy for new books! Unfortunately, our school's library has been closed for 2 years due to budget cuts. We need our children to have access to books they can choose and enjoy and motivate them to go to the local library and find more of that type.
All of my students are from low socio-economic families (all qualify for the free lunch program) and most are from Spanish speaking families (most are recent immigrants).
Our school is an "under-performing" big city public school in California. My students love books and will spend the little money they have to buy from the monthly book order I send home.
My Project
I want to provide my students with new books to choose from because our school library has been closed for 2 years now due to budget constraints. I hope that by providing them with different authors to read and study, they will be motivated to go to the local public library and seek out other books by that author, or start up an author study or their own!
Please help these students have access to new books!
My hope is that they will provide the seeds that will grow into a life-long love of authors, books, and reading. The authors I have chosen are only a beginning, and I hope to have success with this project and then make it even bigger!
