Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class of 29 Kindergarteners is a population of underrepresented minority students.
Most are English language learners with a 97% low income status.
Despite being in a high poverty, high crime, low-income neighborhood, they arrive each morning on time with a smile on their face and eager to learn. They love to practice their reading each morning.
Unfortunately, our school has not been able to provide them with the necessary tools called for in today's common core curriculum. They love reading but our classroom lacks books at their reading level. These leveled reading books are crucial to develop their reading skills.
Our school is in a current budget crisis and can't afford to buy any learning materials which are desperately needed to master the Common Core Standards.
My students deserve a fighting chance in today's competitive world.
My Project
These books will continue to develop their reading skills and English language acquisition.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.
My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy. Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are grateful for the limited amount of books we have. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time and enjoy literature rich books that are crucial to English language acquisition.
