My students come from a low-income neighborhood and face struggles and challenges on a daily basis. Included in their daily challenges are often times financial struggles. All of my students receive a free breakfast and lunch every school day. My goal is to make the classroom a fun and welcoming environment where they can learn and grow regardless of what goes on outside of school. Even with what these kids face on a daily basis, they come to school with a positive outlook and a love for learning!
With the income restrictions placed on the families that I serve, many of my students do not have access to supplies to help them thrive.
My kids love to play, read, move, and everything else that your average elementary student does in a day. I cannot control what goes on outside of my classroom, but I take pride in what goes on inside of it. I want to make sure that my students strive and that they have what they need to be successful and continue their love of learning.
My Project
I was notified that I would be transferred to not only a new school, but also a new grade level about 4 weeks into this school year. Coming from a kindergarten classroom, I do not have any books that will be appropriate for my room full of third graders.
I am asking for a number of individual books, as well as book series that my students will be interested in.
I have done research as well as ask my students what they would like to be reading. With this project, I can bring them that. I would love for them to be reading books that interest them so that they can learn to love reading.
