This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from all over Washington DC. They attend a Title I focus school located in Southwest DC. These students come from a variety of backgrounds, but all of them strive to be better readers, writers, and learners!
Our students are caring and hard workers, ready to conquer any new challenge that comes their way.
Often, my students must work twice as hard as other students due to challenges, and yet they do it with a smile on their faces!
My Project
Every kid deserves to see themselves reflected in the stories they read. Help me get my students high quality books with interesting characters that look like them!
When kids see themselves in the stories they read, they are able to connect with the book at a deeper level.
These amazing books will be given to families at our annual literacy night. Every child that attends our event will get to choose a book to take home.
Studies have shown that having books at home greatly impacts a child's learning. Thank you for helping to provide my students with high quality books!
