I consider myself lucky to have the opportunity to teach at a wonderful, supportive, community school in rural North Carolina. I teach fourth grade at a Title I school of dedicated, curious, and passionate students from diverse backgrounds. At the beginning of the school year, the majority of my students have the basic supplies that they need to be successful throughout the year. And, if they don't, I help provide the supplies for them. Often, I do have families that will donate supplies to help make our learning environment productive and to help keep our classroom clean.
However, at this point in the school year, essential classroom supplies have disappeared and are in need of replacement in order for students to complete tasks and practice healthy habits.
My students are eager to succeed and show their "Bulldog Pride" on all tasks, but often lack the necessary learning tools to do so. I am reaching out for help from donors like yourself so that my students will receive fresh, new supplies that will foster learning and maintain our healthy, productive learning environment.
My Project
At this time in the school year, our essential classroom supplies are limited. Throughout our instructional day, I hear the famous question, "Mrs. Godwin, can I have a pencil?" It is often followed by, "Mrs. Godwin, do you have an eraser?" Another statement I frequently hear is, "Mrs. Godwin, you are out of hand sanitizer again, and I just sneezed!" Although I often purchase these supplies (and others) with my own money for my students, our extra supply has disappeared and needs to be replenished.
Can you imagine not being able to complete an assignment or activity because you don't have a proper writing instrument?
Or not being able to color a project because you don't have any crayons? Unfortunately, this is the reality of classrooms across our country, like mine, towards the end of the year when essential supplies have run out. We need these supplies to be prepared and healthy for learning!
The arrival of new pencils, erasers, crayons, colored pencils, and hand sanitizer in our classroom would brighten my students smiles and spirits! Additionally, I would be able to ensure that each of my students had the essential supplies to continue making strides towards the end of a successful school year.
