This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Some students in my classroom have not yet found that book that makes them love reading. The one that they can't put down, and carry with them everywhere. Help these kids find their first "home run book"!
My students are incoming 6th graders, excited for school and just beginning to truly enjoy and embrace reading.
These 6th graders are being welcomed into a school where reading is part of our culture and community. With guidance and support from adults and peers, it is my hope that every student in my classroom is able to read books they love.
My Project
This year our school is requiring every student to independently read at least 33 books from a variety of genres. My students need high quality books for our classroom library including The American Journey of Barack Obama, Nightjohn, and Tangerine. These wonderful books will ensure that students are able to find books they love with characters that look like them. Additionally, these books will introduce students to places they have never been and ideas they have never even thought about.
This project will make my classroom a more inviting place for all readers.
It will mean so much for my students to be able to find a book they are excited about reading. Thank you for considering my project!
