Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the bravest students on campus because of the many challenges they undertake and the growth they make from the first day of school to the last. They perform in front of different audiences over four times a year and never hide from the stage. My favorite moment with them is the end of the year because of the stories they share about presenting in front of other classes without having any fears.
Sometimes it's not about what kind of person they are in my class, but what kind of human they become in their own lives.
My students have the biggest smiles and friendliest attitudes at the school. We promote and welcome anyone who seems different or "weird" on campus. We collaborate with other groups on campus and help create a positive environment on campus. Often times, my students would prefer to live at school rather than to go home...we actually have had slumber parties on the stage! Haha! The theatre department is a place to have friends, a family, a purpose, and to learn skills to give them a future career.
My Project
Did you know a high school theatre performance can take somewhere between 1 and 3 months? Day 1 is where a director and designers meet to discuss plans. Maybe day 14 is where actors audition for the show. Rehearsals begin after that, all while the tech departments build, paint, sew, measurer, cut, construct, and so much more for the show. Over a month later, we can start putting actors together with tech. And eventually, a show is put onstage.
Now imagine the paperwork that goes into the planning of a performance; an insane amount of paperwork and designs!
There are numerous theatre apps that only can be used on an I-Pad. These programs turn designs into digital drawings with measurements, scripts can be written and drawn onto digitally, music can be read and played digitally, even the final show can be organized with just an I-Pad. Thank you for helping us save some trees, and keep organized in our future shows.
