My Students

Small, but mighty! Our school is located in a rural area and most of our students come from low-income families.

My students deserve the best!

They are hardworking, talented individuals who have the skills and the mindset to do great things.

I am the school's elementary music teacher and teach all students in grades kindergarten through 5th grade, as well as instrumental lessons. My students have a lot of talent and a lot of motivation, and it is my goal to create an environment that allows them to be creative thinkers. My classes are very hands-on and team driven and I want to do whatever it takes to give them the resources that they need.

My Project

I have been working extremely hard to build up a classroom set of Orff xylophones this past year. I have been able to get a bass xylophone and 2 alto using DonorsChoose, but obviously that is still not enough.

Ensemble playing is one of the most beneficial things for music students, and having access to these xylophones allows them to work as a team to develop music fundamentals.

Playing on these instruments gives my students a sense of pride. They are ale to play something all by themselves, and add to the success of the entire class. It also helps prepare them for chorus and band when they are in 4th grade and allows them to gain a high understanding of music notation and pitch.
