My students need a carpet, Comfy Corner Listening Center, Portable CD player, and an Alphabet Blocks Rug for cooperative learning, independent reading, and a comfortable space to listen to books!

In the heart of our Nation's Capital, I have the pleasure of teaching a vivacious group of 5 and 6 years olds. Everyday my students come to school excited to play, learn, and grow!
My upcoming kindergarten class will be an inclusion setting of both general education and special education students.
I teach at a Title 1 school where a majority of the students come from low income households and receive free and reduced breakfast, lunch and dinner. A majority of our learning time is spent on building a strong classroom community and developing appropriate skills to become self regulated and self motivated. Much of this takes place on our classroom rug.
Much like myself, my students have trouble sitting still! They wiggle and move constantly. Thus, sitting quietly at their desks completing assignments does not work for my little "kinders". In order for quality learning to take place, my students need to be able to move and sit in places that are warm, comfortable, and safe. I design my classroom and instruction with that in mind. Our day is divided into whole group, small group, and individualized learning opportunities. Our current rug does not fit all of my students comfortably. They tend to be sitting on top of each other which often causes minor disputes. With a new rug, my students will be able to listen to and dramatize our class stories in their own space. We will be able to have class meeting where every student has a spot to sit. My students deserve these great spaces.
As a kindergarten teacher, it is my responsibility to not only teach my students the foundational skills of reading, writing, and math.
Greater than that, it is my responsibility that I teach my students what it means to be good people and even better friends. My students work best in a place where they feel comfortable and safe. With your support we can provide my students with the carpets and spaces they need to become successful students and citizens!
