Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in my classroom involves a lot of hands-on activities, some Spanish and a lot of learning. The kids love the technology offered in their special area classes. I want to bring that to them in their main classroom with this substitute for a smart board.
Last year I had 12 ESL students and 11 regular education students.
I had four students who had never spoken English and some that only ate at school. My school is a Title 1 school; the majority of our students have free lunch. In fact, our school was able to provide every student with free lunch because of the need of our population of students. Our school is definitely a school that puts the students and parents first. Our kids love learning and love coming to school. I only wish to spark that love of learning very early on.
My Project
Oh my goodness... where do I start? Every other classroom in our school has smart boards except for our kindergarten and preschool classrooms. This is only my second year at this school, but the need for a smart board is huge. My students would love being able to just walk up to the screen and be able to drag and click with the easy access of a board/pen. All year last year, my students had to learn to deal with the hassle of using the mouse and having to step up to be able to use the computer. If we had the technology of a smart board, portable interactive whiteboard system, my kids would be so much more motivated to pay attention, to want to participate. A document camera would be so helpful instead of having to take pictures and emailing them to myself to be able to project them. This would just eliminate so much wasted time and would allow more time for the kids to learn and to participate.
Technology should never be a headache for a child, especially a 5 years old.
With the donations you provide to this project, you are helping in providing a very easy fix. I am not asking for the full on smart board that costs thousands. I am asking for something that can be readily used and attached, an easy fix to a huge problem. My students love technology. I just want to be able to give them the opportunity to use the technology they will see in other classrooms, in their own classroom.
