Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the pleasure of working in a Title I school in the Bronx. I have the pleasure of teaching reading this year. My students are eager to learn, in spite of not always having the materials that they need, as many of them live in the shelters. Some of my students have Individual Education Plans (IEPs), which help me to meet that child's specific needs.
I want to bring fun math and literacy into my classroom.
Children need to understand that school can be fun and educational. It's possible to giggle and learn from school or from home.
My Project
I know an iPad Pro will make a tremendous difference to my students. The iPad allows them to use a "pen" to write and draw. I have previously used a different tablet that did this but it has since broken. (Apple products are truly made to withstand the pounding of little hands.) It is my hope to introduce the construction of bridges to my students. We will study the science, technology, engineering, art and math behind some of the most famous bridges in the world. Then we will use all our information to create the "perfect" bridge.
Imagine the glee when a child who is struggling to build a bridge are able to take the computer and draw different structures.
The iPad has the ability to allow my students to use their imaginations to produce the very best.
The one thing I can assure you is that the minute you introduce a computer in the mix, I have everyone's complete attention.
