Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Kids need to see people who look like them who have faced challenges, overcome obstacles, and made a difference in the world.

When students see characters who look like them, act like them, have the same disability, a varied family dynamic, similar interests and backgrounds, they connect, relate and become inspired by literature.

Books also act as windows into other cultures, allowing us to travel to other places and connect with people who are not exactly like us. These books can open conversations with students and grow empathy in their hearts for those who are different than themselves.

My students have special needs. They all come from varied homes, backgrounds, communities, religions, cultures and languages. I want them to know, respect and love the differences in our world. Our classroom library does not have enough books to represent our wonderful students. We need more books that celebrate all of our abilities, disabilities, similarities and differences.
