My students need supplies, such as, laminating pouches, protective sheets, speakers, scissors, small bins and tape, to start school and set up work stations.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students at my school are an energetic and hardworking group of children. They enjoy coming to school, but school funding cuts over the years have impacted what schools can provide for individual classrooms.
I teach second grade in an urban neighborhood where all the students at school are eligible for free breakfast and free lunch.
Some students live below the poverty line as we have students who live in a shelter for homeless families. At times it can be difficult for some families to provide students with basic necessities needed to be successful in school. Despite these obstacles, our school has hard-working students, as well as teachers and staff, who strive to make our school a welcoming and inviting place. In addition, our school is one of the top-performing schools in the city.
My Project
These materials will be used for a variety of things. I use small group instruction on a daily basis. As I work with one group, the rest of the students are engaged in meaningful tasks. They might be working independently, with a partner, or in a student-led small group. The laminating pouches and sheet protectors will be used to make and organize task cards. The paper storage has plenty of slots to store and save student work. The tape and scissors will be used by students as they work on different projects. The storage bins are another way to keep materials organized.
Small group instruction is critical in my classroom as it allows me to meet the varying needs of my students.
These materials will help the rest of the class as they participate in other work. Having all of materials, papers, and supplies organized will eliminate wasted time as students collect the items they need. Everything will be organized and ready to go.
