My students will walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. School should always be a safe place to grow and experience learning in an enjoyable way.
We are at a Title I school where many of my students will receive free breakfast and lunch.
Often times it can be difficult for us to realize that school isn't just a place to learn for many students, it is their safe and comfortable space. Despite so many hardships, I want my students to be eager to learn and do their best, while feeling part of a classroom community.
My Project
For second graders, learning from your desk all day can be mundane and tiresome. Having various seating and a comfortable area can help with focus and interest in learning. The lessons and activities that take place on the classroom rug are an essential component to my students' learning experience. Carpet activities help build a strong and caring classroom community and help refocus students' attention. Each student will have an assigned spot on the rug. Having this carpet in our classroom will save invaluable time, as energy can be focused into the lesson rather than into directing and redirecting students on where they should sit.
This carpet will have a lasting impact in my classroom throughout the school year and in years to come!
Immeasurable time and energy will be saved, as we will not have to waste time reminding students where to sit. We can instead focus our attention on the learning at hand and continue to build a caring classroom community.
