Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are always excited when they enter the classroom, especially on lab days. They enjoy hands-on activities, working in small groups and being able to explore with their peers.
My goal is to provide my students with an engaging, fun and safe learning environment.
My school is located in a low social economic neighborhood where 95% of the students are on free or reduced lunch. Most of my students are faced with many challenges in the classroom and at home.
My Project
I'm not sure who loves STEAM time in our classroom more, me or them. I love watching my students create, build, and rally together to accomplish their ideas. Even the shyest of students step up to help teach their peers how they did something.
These Sam Labs STEAM kits will help my students become better engineers while they create a variety of prototype projects then practice their marketing skills when they try to "sell" their products.
I will have a cost of production list for the many items in the STEAM Kits. Students will be able to use what they need to create their prototype under a specific budget. As they are building, they will keep a running total of their production cost. As they begin wrapping up their prototype I will provide some guided research about supply and demand. As well as how companies price items. When their project is complete they will decide on a sales price, and design posters to market their creation. Finally, they will need to create a marketing pitch for their potential buyers.
