My Students
My Pre-K students are curious, bright, enthusiastic learners. We are a Title I Expeditionary Learning school in an urban neighborhood and our community is challenged economically. We support students who are a diverse group of academic learners including a large population of ELL students who bring the gift of cultural diversity with them into the classroom.
My Project
Representation of all people is very important to me and sharing diversity with my Pre-K students will support their knowledge of the world around them. I believe that all children should see people who look like them in their reading and daily life.
Books can be mirrors or windows in which children see and appreciate images and representations similar to their own lives and experiences. Students of all cultural backgrounds will get to learn about the diversity they see in their daily life and the positivity of recognizing everyone. I hope to create a safe learning and discussion space for all my students and the discussions from diverse books will provide opportunities for social learning!
