Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a classroom of 28 students who are curious and inquisitive learners. Many of them can be labeled as a minority, require special education services, qualify for free or reduced-rate lunch, or go to homes that have very few to no school supplies to support their learning journey. Yet, these labels do not define them or let you truly understand just how amazing my students are.
These students come to school excited to learn and have parents who want them to succeed.
They value their education and get as much support as possible from home to ensure their success. These students emphasize day in and day out why I love to teach so much and work so hard to make sure they succeed to reach all of their goals in life.
My Project
My students were lucky enough last year to receive a subscription to Storyworks Jr through fabulous donors like you. Unfortunately, it is something that has to be renewed, and I know that this is a resource that will be sorely missed if we do not have it. My hope is with the support of wonderful people like you, my students can still receive a subscription.
Storyworks magazine zooms in on current events and helps broaden my students' horizons.
The texts are challenging and push them to try new things, but are in a fun format and provide support for the students like access to online videos to help them build background content knowledge and expand their thinking about the topics. The magazines contain both fiction and nonfiction stories and articles, giving students exposure to different kinds of texts. Students love having their own personal magazine that they can keep, jot their notes in, and truly enjoy.
