Do you remember all the funny, silly and goofy stories you read as a child? Of course not, you remember the Nonfiction titles that grabbed your attention, sparked your interests and taught you something you didn't already know before. Now let's show my students what reading for meaning is all about!
My students are a wonderful group of eager first graders that attend a large school within an urban setting of Illinois.
They are all like little sponges with the amount of information the soak up each day. Even when they go home, they continue to want to learn more and bring in their findings to share. This self driven motivation encourages everyone around them.
My Project
With high-interest topics, colorful illustrations and accessible text for every reading level, this library makes it easy to develop reading fluency and increase comprehension of nonfiction text. This is also a great way to provide differentiated instruction. The library includes 80 books that are leveled using Fountas & Pinnell’s system. Each level comes with a set of 5 nonfiction paperback books, plus organizational items to keep the books by level—so kids can easily find the books they need.
Also, a set of center activities will help manage the rest of the students while I work with small groups of children on reaching their literacy goals.
Donations made to this request will not only benefit students this school year, but for every year to come.
The impact these books have on students will allow them to become proficient readers that will enable them to gain confidence and skills to carry-out through each school year.
