Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are so special to me. They are from a high-poverty community. So, many of them need resources. Our district is the largest in our area, so we have very few funds to go around. My students are English language learners who have been in the country for a short period of time. It is because of this that I really enjoy working with them. I am the first person who teaches them English, and I feel so lucky that I get to do that for them, because they are all so eager to learn.
My Project
Many students who come to my class are great readers in their native language. Every week I have my students bring home books to continue to read at home. I am in need of Spanish chapter books for those who are not yet ready to read chapter books in English. They often read the few that I have within the first few weeks of school. I ask their parents to take them to the library since I do not have a decent amount of chapter books for them to read. I'd love to surprise them with a basket of chapter books that they can read in class or at home.
