My students need gross motor activities (comet balls and target toss) and a way to transport them (indoor-outdoor equipment cart) to our playground so we can play safely!
We love to play outside! Everyday, we head out to our playground. Since it is not right outside of our class it is sometimes difficult to carry everything we want to play with. We need help!!
I teach a PreK Exceptional Children's Class in a rural part of our state.
The children exhibit a variety of disabilities, including developmental delays, autism, and hearing impairments. This year, I have a class of seven, very active little boys, ages 3-5. As part of our curriculum, we go outside to play for an hour each day, and they really look forward to going outside! And so do I!!!!!
My Project
Although we can see our playground from our room, it takes some effort to bring things out to play. We have tried carrying bags with play items but the children can't help because the bags are too big and heavy. A small playground cart would be ideal. The children would be able to load the items they want to play with each day and then help to push the cart to the playground. Since our playground is not very big, additional items would allow the children to practice gross motor skills but keep the items within our confined space.
Many of our children do not play outside, other than the time they are at school.
This project will introduce them to gross motor activities that they would not normally be exposed to, increase their ability to play and take turns, and allow them to take responsibility for transporting their toys to and from the playground.
