Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are enthusiastic, motivated and engaged first graders at a Sacramento elementary school. There are 24 children in my class and they're interested in school and all academic areas.
One of the things I love most about teaching first grade is that my students are so eager to learn and genuinely happy to attend school.
They love reading and are actively engaged during our daily reader's workshop. My students do a great job at working independently while I work with different reading groups at the carpet.
My Project
With the help of donors like you, I hope to get a listening center, books and CDs for my students to listen to during our daily phonics instruction and workshop. Students will have the opportunity to listen to a variety of popular stories with two other friends.
My students will benefit from the listening center by hearing different stories that get them interested, engaged and eager to read.
The more stories they listen to, the more excited about their own reading they become. Hearing the "different voices" on the CDs will also strengthen their fluency and intonation.
They will also have the opportunity to share with friends while reading and listening to the different stories. The listening center will be an additional "May Do" task after their initial "Must Do" task is complete.
