My students need drawing books so that they can draw in the library during free time. They also need headphones, dry erase markers and some additional fiction/non-fiction titles.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am the librarian in an inner-city school and I have not had a library budget in 4 years. My students love to draw during free time, so I have chosen "How to draw" books along with markers for the white boards, headphones and few additional fiction/non-fiction titles. They constantly ask for drawing books, but I cannot meet their demands.
Our school is an inner city public school with a population of 700 children, PK through grade 8 in Connecticut.
The school is a neighborhood school which offers art, music, physical education, instrumental music and library classes and an after-school program. Many of the students take advantage of the music lessons offered and they perform at school functions.
Our student population encompasses students from many countries including Portugal, Cape Verde, Mexico, Haiti, Ecuador, Brazil and many more.
These students love to draw on white boards, or paper and they color any coloring pages that I offer. I really think that they would benefit from books that would show them how to draw such as the "Draw 50" series. Then, they could create their own coloring pages and learn something in the process.
My Project
If my students were able to use these materials to create their own works, they would feel proud of themselves. For some of the students, drawing and coloring is their "get-away" from their challenging lives in the often dangerous, inner-city where they live. They become peaceful when they draw and color and I want to encourage that process of calming down for them.
The drawing books would spawn their creativity in addition to teaching them how to draw some of their favorite animals and characters.
Please make a difference in my students' lives.
Their neighborhood is often dangerous, but they seem to lose themselves in drawing and coloring. Providing drawing books for them, at various levels, would encourage their creativity and hopefully make them happier students. It would also give them that feeling of accomplishment when they can draw a picture like it was in the book.
