Mrs. Sullivan from Duncan OK is requesting Lab Equipment through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need Science Materials such as a an incubator, volcano maker, tornado maker, terrium, and root view to explore different Environmental Science concepts.
More then half of my students are from low income families and most of our supplies are donated or bought by the teachers. Some of the things that they are not exposed to at home; we give them the opportunity to experience here at school.
My students are very active!
They are busy bodies who love learning new skills and goals. They come in each morning with the biggest smiles on their faces, and these smiles last throughout the day because they are excited at what they have learned. They are excited to learn!
My kids love hands-on activities. I feel with more exposure to these type of materials students will learn more about Environmental Science and love to possibly explore these topics as a career choice.
Excitement is what students will feel when they are able to see the eggs hatch in our classroom incubator!
I can't wait to see the students care for these eggs that are possibly going to become chickens. We will look at these eggs daily and draw a picture in our journals of what might be happening with the eggs. We will also use this experience during our morning meeting and use math when counting down how many days until the eggs hatch. We will also talk about different animals that hatch from eggs.
When talking about weather what the children in my classroom loved discussing was tornados and how to be safe in a tornado. By having the materials to build thier very own tornado students will have a hands-on approach to learning more about what makes a tornado. We will also use our Ipads and make a video talking about how and what makes a tornado spin. We will also use the concept of tornadoes in our block and lego center and children will design an area; such as a basement to keep them safe. Students may also choose to draw in the art center a tornado.
During the letter V week, students loved talking about a volcano and hot lava. For weeks we viewed videos as well as songs about different volcanos. By having the materials to build our very own volcano, I can't wait to see the excitement when the volcano erupts. We will use our explorations in Science to document what we saw in our journals. Children will also take pictures.
