This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work as a Special Education support service teacher in a Title I public school in Brooklyn, New York. My classroom is a fun place to be! I have a group of kids who are ready to blossom as readers, writers, and mathematicians. My boys and girls have different ages and abilities, but we work together as a team. My students are working hard and need assistance in all subjects. We do a lot of hands-on activities using visuals and manipulatives. I need to think outside the box and often make purchases for fun and engaging materials to reward my students. I want my kids to enjoy learning and to look forward to walking into my room.
My Project
We focus a lot on the social-emotional well-being of our kids and try to make their transition to constant change in the routine less stressful. We try to focus on mental health and create a healthy classroom community where everyone learns together and from each other.
Our special education team is working closely together, sharing and creating materials to support our struggling readers, ease their anxiety and frustration with difficult tasks, and give them the love of reading.
I would love to purchase the selection of culturally relevant, simple, phonics-based books that my students would love! These books are perfect for small-group learning. The pictures are wonderful our engaging. These engaging sets books would help my children learn to read and love reading. The caddy would keep our drawing and writing supplies organized so we can illustrate our stories.
