Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically.
My classroom has a wide range of students and many don't have access to educational materials (books, technology, etc) outside of school.
Our school is located in an constantly growing urban community in Orlando where some families have recently immigrated to the US and others are from single parent homes.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each day.
My Project
We need books that are selected by the Florida Department of Education and Florida Association of Media in Education as exemplary literature for 3rd - 5th grade students. With these books, my students will have the opportunity to read quality stories that expand their reading comprehension, love for learning, and imagination. Our students are challenged school-wide each year to read these books and many won't have access to these books on their own.
The wide variety of books on this year's list will encourage students to read independently for pleasure and to read books that are on, above, and below their reading level in order to improve their reading fluency and comprehension.
Our school has a special challenge for students to read ALL 15 books by the end of the school year! My students challenge and push each other to read all the books and celebrate together!
