Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever seen or heard young readers share about the books they have read during book talk? Their faces are all brighten to share their favorite characters or interesting parts of the story. Although their reading levels are different (from B to L), but they all love READING.
My class consists of 22 active first graders.
They are full of energy and they are always excited to learn new things. It's so amazing to see their enthusiasm and effort in their daily work. Our school is located in the central of Los Angeles city where our students are considered low-income. This year all students are receiving free lunch. Our school's test score has been increasing every year; however, the school's resource is very limited. Due to budget cuts this year, we have no librarians. And now the teachers have to serve as a librarian in order to full fill the students' needs. Every week, each student can check out only 2 books!!!
My Project
I want to create a "mini library" in the classroom so all students can access to the books. They will be check out books at their reading levels or the "look books" that they're interested in but not able to read yet, so the students will be inspired to learn to read.
My students also want to show off their work. We'll be having a drama teacher next month. We want to capture their performance, so they can learn by watching their own act in the play. A camera and a camcorder would allow students to document both the learning process and the end products that they create together.
I believe that my students will make progress in their learning by being provided those means.
I know my students would love to see their faces and activities up in our classroom and school. The students deserve to be celebrated and their hard work should be shown off the a larger audience. Please help support and encourage the effort of the students. Thank you so much!!!!
