I teach awesome second graders! We build community and treat each other like a class family. Our school is a safe, family-friendly school. We are a Title I school with over 82% of the students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Our school is diverse and inclusive of many different cultures.
Second graders love to learn!
Some of my students' favorite things to do include reading, writing stories, and playing math games. My students are learning many positive character traits such as perseverance, cooperation, and being forgiving of others when they make mistakes.
We believe in getting better and better every day!
My Project
We have a class beta fish named Drifter that the students love! They take turns feeding Drifter and reading him books!
Taking care of the fish has also taught the students responsibility.
It does become expensive to keep the tank clean, especially buying the filters that must be changed every few weeks.
The filters keep our aquarium clean and healthy. They help absorb odors, pigments, and chlorine and keeps our aquatic friend happy and safe.
We also need water conditioner, food, and a resting leaf for Drifter.
This is my second year having the fish and he is a hit with the students! Many students do not have a pet at home so Drifter gets to be their pet!
Because of schools being closed, I am currently taking care of our class fish at home and am need of supplies to keep Drifter clean and happy! These items will also be used when school gets back in session, and I can take Drifter back to school.
My students love Drifter and check on him often to see how he is doing. I also post pictures or show him via Zoom so the students can see him. I know they miss getting to read to him like they do in class.
