Help me give my students the gift of flexible seating. I will not confine my students to my own learning because they were born in another time- adapted from Chinese Proverb.
My students are growing and evolving. It is amazing to see how far they have come in just four months. I am always proud of them and want to continue to do my best to support their growth and development. Students are not always motivated to get work done if they are confined to the same seat throughout the entire day. I love it when students ask if they can lay on the floor or sit on the couch to get their work done. I want to continue to provide this option for students by adding floor cushions to the seating options we currently have.
My Project
My students this year are free spirited, out of the box, and non- traditional. In an effort to support and encourage the creativity that stems from these traits, I have decided to increase students' options of flexible seating by flex space bean bag seats and comfy floor seat to the already existing options. My students often choose to lay or sit on the floor to read, do projects, watch a video, take a test ...just about anything. They always ask "Can I sit on the floor?"
I want students to be comfortable while learning because the benefits of this is two fold.
They get to be in an environment that encourages them to do their best work and I get highly motivated, engaging students working hard to meet their daily goals.
Creating the ideal classroom environment goes way beyond what is placed on the walls and how the desks and chairs are arranged. It is also about accessibility. Students should be able to have their needs met in an environment where they spend most of their time on a day to day basis.
