My students need the basics, from composition books, to pencils, to markers, and especially dictionaries. Because of their financial situations, many do not have these items.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Something I always tell my students is 'do not give up' it might be very simple. My goal besides teaching them the Standards is for them to love learning and how it is important in every day life. I love seeing how much they learn from day one to the last day in third grade .
Our school is one of the oldest schools in the San Fernando Valley.
It is still very hard to get Internet but it has a lot of character. My students are in a Dual Language Program, which means that the students should graduate high school with a Bilingual Certificate. Our school is almost 100 percent Free Lunch. My students are extremely interested in technology although most households do not have a computer, laptop, or iPad and if there is one there might not be Internet. My students are bright because they can express themselves in two languages and I am always telling them that, "Knowing two is better than knowing one". It is hard at times to get the basic supplies for my students and it is so much easier for them to have what they need in order for them to concentrate and enjoy learning instead of worrying about where am I going to get my school supplies from.
My Project
A couple of years ago I did a project at the end of the school year with my students. It involved researching, writing, creating and presenting. We need Spanish/English dictionaries for my students to enrich their vocabulary. The composition books, binders, dividers and GOOD pencils are so they can be organized writers. Lastly, the markers, colored pencils, and Model Magic is so that their projects can come to life. These might be simple materials but many of my students cannot afford them and myself being a single mother, cannot buy for all of my students anymore. With the materials I hope my students get will help them work on not only these three projects but other activities throughout the year. What we do with our projects, like our end of the year animal project is we have the kinder through second graders come through our classroom and my students present their projects to our guests, giving oral presentations in two languages!
The donations to my classroom will help my students make better projects throughout the year.
I feel that by having my students to multiple projects throughout the year they enjoy learning, creating and presenting. They learn to write in a clear manner, describe their work orally, create and recreate art, animal habitats... Something else that is very important is they learn to be a good audience and to learn from their peers. working with others is a valuable trait.
