Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help us join this century! 2003 was a good year - I was an undergraduate pupil, California elected Arnold Schwarzenegger, Clay Aiken was popular, and George W. Bush announced major combat in Iraq was over. Also: that's the last time my classroom received new computers.
I have classes of knowledge hungry young people who need extra support in school.
This is your grand opportunity to make a difference in a needy classroom, my needy classroom. My kiddos are all wonderful competent high school students, but reading is a challenge for many of them. The reading levels in my classroom range from pre-primer to around sixth grade. We have an awesome reading program in place, but I lack a computer to run reading software, show videos related to our studies, or show students word processing basics. I also follow them to their mainstream classes and a laptop would allow me to modify work as needed in real-time.
My Project
I have wrangled a projector from the district, but it's of no use to me without a computer to project from! Care to help a sister out? I put together a proposal for a laptop and lock so that I can teach from something other than a Windows 2003 desktop.
I am requesting of you one of two things (though you could do both, if you are so inclined):
1. Donate anything you can to my project on Donors Choose.
2. Forward to anyone you know who may be interested in donating to my project.
If you donate you will get thank you cards and pictures of my kiddos engaged in learning sponsored by YOU.
Thank you for helping out with my classes over the years, and for helping me raise the funds for this project.
Happy February!
Danielle
