My students need Chromebooks to have access to educational activities including our Google Classroom and iReady (an educational program). My students also need noise-canceling headphones to allow them to hear online activities without becoming distracted.
Our classroom sticks together! Every day thirty-six 3rd graders walk through my door ready to learn! Our classroom family is full of unique students who have a variety of needs! This includes English Language Learners, gifted students, and students with sensory and attention disorders. Beyond our learning needs about 25% of our students come from military backgrounds and about a third come from low income households.
This year my sharp students have been through a lot but the family dynamic in my classroom helps all of them feel safe and loved.
My students this year have been displaced from their homes due to Hurricane Maria, gone through divorce, moved across the country for the first time, and faced challenges that I can not even imagine. Despite this, they come to school every day with a smile on their faces and eager to read and write!
My Project
My students love using Chromebooks and visiting the computer lab. Currently we have four Chromebooks in the classroom. Having a large number of students on computers at the same time can be difficult. If we had three more Chromebooks every student would have access to a laptop during small group time.
This year my students have fallen in love with typing their essays on the computer.
They are so proud to submit their final drafts online and see them printed out. Having Chromebooks will allow my students adequate time to type their writing, edit and finalize their drafts. It gives them so much joy to bring home an essay they have written and typed themselves!
The final thing I've asked for is noise canceling headphones. Students are asked to provide their own headphones when using computers. Some students are unable to afford headphones. Having 3 extra sets of headphones will give students who do not have the an opportunity to consistently hear videos and online tutorials.
My students will be so excited to have better access to technology!
