My students need learning activities and manipulatives for our Bug Exploration Center including magnetic rods, sorting kits and instant learning centers.
I work in an inner-city school that houses approximately six hundred and fifty pre-kindergarten through sixth grade students. Eighty percent are high needs students. Forty-five percent are English Language Learners. We serve over two hundred autistic and special education students. Our preschool program provides a developmental curriculum in an inclusive environment when possible.
Our four preschool classrooms serve seventy happy, playful and eager-to-learn three and four year old students, with sixty-three percent being special needs.
Our program is based on the belief that “quality early childhood education programs will ensure the healthy growth of a future generation and provide the foundation for lifelong learning. Through a classroom that promotes the development of positive personal relationships and utilizes a variety of hands-on experiences, children gain confidence in their ability to explore, question, discover, solve problems, integrate knowledge, think critically and take risks.”
My Project
Every year I do a bug unit with my preschoolers and they love it. Over the years, my materials have been broken or lost and we need replacement activities and manipulatives.
The materials I am requesting will allow my budding entomologists to learn all about the wonderful world of insects while developing math, fine motor, social and vocabulary skills.
Using the Bugs & Insects Instant Learning Center my students will learn all about bugs and insects through hands-on learning. The Magnetic Size Sorting Rods help develop skills in sorting by size, sorting by attribute and comparing sizes of bugs. The Scoop-A-Bug Sorting Kit helps children practice sorting, develop eye/hand coordination and build the muscle control as they scoop, sort and examine lifelike bugs. The bug viewers will allow them to examine, compare and ponder the anatomy of different insects as they look closely at lifelike plastic bugs.
These materials will be a wonderful addition to our bug unit and ensure that my students can explore, discover, problem solve and think critically about the wonderful world of bugs.
