My students need a Flip Video camera to record book talks where they recommend library books to fellow students. The book talks are posted to our library web site to promote building our library community, extending a love of reading, and sharing favorite books with friends and family. I'm an elementary librarian who teaches library lessons at two of our four district elementary schools. I teach lessons in social responsibility, information literacy, and independent learning to grades kindergarten through fifth grade. It would be great to have one Flip Video camera at each of my schools so the second grade students could record their projects and we could expand the program to other grades.
The kids are thrilled to see themselves talking about their favorite books. Currently, it is difficult to borrow a video camera to video and post the recordings. Sometimes, kids wait weeks to have their video turn. It would be fun to be able to use the Flip Video camera to record the student during their library class day and post it that evening for their class and family to view.
By getting two Flip Video cameras, I could keep one at each school where I work. I alternate between schools every other day. Having a camera at each site would allow for great access by students. They could meet with the library volunteer when I'm not at that building to record.
Your help with funding this project will make it possible for my students to share their love of books, ensure their improved self-confidence in public speaking, and promote the love of reading.
