This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are in 1st grade, ages 6-7. They attend an urban school setting in south Kansas. Our school is a neighborhood Title I school with grades 1-6. We are emerged in literature every day but we struggle to find the extra funding to make our classroom library inviting and cozy.
They are avid readers who have a thirst for exposure to different kinds of literature.
They are very interested in literature that portrays characters who are related to their backgrounds and their real life.
My Project
These materials will be used to engage 1st grade readers. They will be able to have a quiet cozy place to read which will develop a love for reading. This is the age that kids will become life longer learners and readers to help them be successful.
Students will be able to grab a book sit on the carpet with others and talk about reading.
This promotes a greater understanding for reading. Kids need to talk about reading and books with peers to create a reading community. My students will have the ability to choose a different place to read that is inviting and comfortable.
