Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
You've got mail! My students use a mailbox system where they pick up graded papers, important notices, and homework from their own mailbox that is labeled with their name. They need a new mailbox system that is not falling apart!
My students attend a school in Nevada.
They come from low income families and usually live with multiple families to one home. It is very difficult for my little first graders to have the resources they need at home to be successful in school. Even though they face many challenges at home, my first graders come to school everyday eager to learn. They love school and I love being able to teach them something new everyday.
My Project
I am a first year teacher trying to pull my classroom together in order to be as effective and organized as possible. The materials I have requested will help me do this for my students. I have a mailbox system that I picked up from a veteran teacher and it is currently falling apart. My shelves are falling off of my mailbox and I want to provide a new mailbox unit for my students. I also need pocket charts to help organize my Daily 5 activities my students do during our reading station time. I also need headphones with microphones for one of my Daily 5 rotations of reading for fluency. The students will be able to record themselves reading and then listen and rate their fluency. I also use their recording to take running records and assess their reading levels on Reading A-Z. The materials will help me make my classroom more organized and able to run my reading stations more efficiently and effectively.
Having a mailbox unit that is falling apart gives the vibe that I don't care if the materials my students use are in the best shape, but I do care.
I really want to show my students that they deserve the best and I want to provide the best for them. These materials will help me show my students how to be independent in finding their materials on their own to make our reading block run smooth. Being organized will help build my students' independence in my class.
