My students love ABC books to help them learn new information. I teach students in grades Pre-k through 5th grade. I am the Media Coordinator, therefore I see what they show interests in when checking out books every week. We live in a very rural community with no businesses to partner, not a single stop light, and not even a community library within 15 miles. Most of my students do not have books in their homes so they must get books from our school library as their single source.
During my last book fair we earned some new ABC books. My students absolutely love them because these new ABC books allow them to learn more advanced information in a fun way. My older students are allowed to still read fun ABC books but also learn about the states of the United States.
With this grant I will obtain 12 new ABC books to help build our collection. We are also in need of a book case to house this new collection. My students will be able to gain new experiences without ever leaving their small town. By reading these ABC books about the different states they can gain insight into different areas of their country. They can learn how others live, work and play. These books will help them in their Social Studies, Language Arts and Science goals.
You will make it possible for my students to learn about the larger world by simply opening a book. This will make such a difference in their lives and experiences. It is so important that young readers learn that books can take them anywhere, on many worldly adventures simply by turning the pages of a great book.
