My Students

Representation Matters. Our students represent diverse backgrounds, races, abilities, and cultures. We strive to provide an equitable education for all students. One way we can do that is by providing them with rich literature that has characters they can relate to.

At our school we want books that reflect the lived experiences of our students.

Please help us in building our culturally responsive library so our students can share their similarities and celebrate their differences with their teachers and classmates.

My Project

Did you know that 77% of children's books have characters that are white or animals? Just 23% represent students of different races, cultures, and backgrounds. The funding of this project will put diverse picture books in the hands of both students and teachers at our school. Students will be able to see themselves and their classmates represented by the characters in these books. This project aligns with our district goal that educators will embed culturally responsive teaching and social emotional learning strategies into every classroom to prepare all students to be competent, independent learners.
