I am extremely lucky to teach a group of students like mine! I teach all levels of French at a high school in an underprivileged community. The students in my class choose to be there as language is considered an elective class. This does not mean it is not an academically oriented class. Every day the students show up ready to put their best effort forward.
Each class they learn speaking, listening, reading, and writing in French.
We have a lot of things going on during an 84 minute block! Students complete project-based assignments and are able to move on to the next when the task is completed correctly. This workshop-style classroom leads to a lot of movement.
In our classroom, students create skits, perform and listen to songs, write poetry, mini-books, and essays, and experience French culture through activities, food and games, just to name some activities. Many things can be going on at the same time. My students can go with the flow like no others! They are ready to work and excited to be in class.
My Project
Students can concentrate better when they have options for flexible seating. At our school we have 84 minute blocks. Some students are sitting for over 5 hours a day! We know it is not healthy to be sedentary nor is it comfortable.
With a Royal Seating 1600 Sit or Stand Desk with a Fidget Pedal, and a Switch Sit or Stand Desk with a Fidget Pedal and a Flash Mobile Sit-Down/Stand-Up Computer Desk students will have the option to work at a portable stand-up station when taking notes or completing assignments during class.
These flexible seating options will help a variety of students in my classroom. Any one from students with ADHD, students with back problems, tall students, and energetic students in general will benefit as students will have the option to move to these seats when necessary. This could result in students being able to concentrate better, be more comfortable and there being less distractions to the class. Everyone benefits!
