Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my room are a group of unique, diverse boys and girls, who love hands-on activities that encourage them to be creative and think outside the box. My students are encouraged to be individuals and be proud of who they are and the work they have and will accomplish. We work hard on making sure that the learning never stops in our classroom.
My Head Start classroom consists of 17 young, brilliant minds who are always ready to learn something new.
They're always asking, "How" and "Why." So curious about how the different things around them work. They're a persistent bunch, not giving up until they get the answer they're looking for.
I am also so proud of how kind and caring my students are. They have the biggest hearts and constantly work on treating everyone with love and respect.
My Project
My students love singing and dancing to music. I have chosen a cd radio, movement music CDs, musical instruments, and rhythm scarves for my students to enhance their experiences with music. I currently rely on YouTube to provide music for my students. With the way technology is, it is not always a reliable media source.
Music lights a fire in my students' souls.
They are at their most innocent when moving and grooving to the sounds of the music. But music is much more than just the sounds that we hear coming from a stereo.
There was a study done in 2016 that found that musical experiences in childhood cannot only promote brain development but accelerate it, especially in the areas of language acquisition and reading skills.
With these resources, my students will be able to dig deeper into the world of music by being able to create their own sounds, being introduced to new genres of music, and having materials that allow them to move their body freely.
Having music in my students' everyday lives will not only be something they enjoy but it will also help them as they learn and develop.
