My students need soccer balls, hula hoops, ring toss and colored cones to help promote their team building, cooperation, and social skills through active, structured play at recess.
We are a diverse, amazing, spirited group of second graders from Goodyear, AZ. Our school has 5 second grade classes with about 25 students per class, and they are ALL extraordinary!
On our second grade team, we have 125 exceptional, full of creative energy, and powerful little minds wanting to learn and grow daily.
We unite each day knowing that we are creating a school family built on communication and connection.
We love to read, create vivid writing pieces, team build and learn to problem solve math equations in both small and whole group settings! However, we LOVE recess, play time, time to think, be a team, show empathy, and work together.
At our school our children come to learn and grow and nurture their curious minds for the future!
My Project
Our students need various opportunities to practice and grow in both their social, emotional, and physical skills during recess time. In order to help promote wellness they need structured recess play, and time to build positive peer interactions. The tools that our students will be using during recess are: soccer balls, basketballs, hula hoops, sand toys, kick balls, flags, bases, chalk, and jump ropes to name a few!

Our ultimate goal is two fold.
1. To get our kids MOVING
2. Learn cooperation, and build teamwork.
To accomplish our goal we plan on setting up various stations that our students can use during their recess block each day. These stations will each be set up with a team building activity or sport. On the field, our students will participate in field games such as soccer and kickball. On our basketball court, students can participate in basketball and four squares. They can continue to foster their creativity at our chalk station, and not to leave out our cardio kids, we will have another station with jump ropes, and hula hoops.
Implementing the new structure of recess stations and team tools, our kids can focus more on positive interactions, learn life skills and develop conflict resolution strategies.
