Here, at my amazing school, I teach the most amazing and eager students. I have the privilege of teaching and shaping the minds of 24 wonderful 5 and 6 year olds. We have so many resources available to our students and I just want to be able to offer them the world! Our school services each and every zip code in the entire city. Each morning, we start our day with Morning Meeting at our carpet. Then, we spend the rest of the day at our moving between our tables and the carpet.
My Kindergartners are such a lovely group of eager learners and I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to teach them.
At my school, we teach our children to be responsible, respectful, and safe, always. We teach them how to be empathetic to others in their school community, neighborhoods, and in the rest of the world. These kids are our future and I am looking forward to seeing these kiddos blossom into the future leaders of the world.

My students need three wobble chairs, four lap desks, one rockers, a two floor seats; with these, we can utilize every space in our room! Don't you think the Big Joe Cuddle Chair looks perfect for a reading nook! Do you like to sit in one spot all day long? I certainly do NOT! It's important to stay active, keep our bodies moving, and our minds alert. Knowing this, I try to give my students, many of whom have never really been in school before, the opportunities to move from the carpet to their tables and back. I firmly believe that Kindergartners should not be expected to sit still all day!
As a Kindergarten teacher, many people hear me say, "Let them Wiggle, Let them Move, Let them be children, Let them LEARN." They should get to wiggle, wobble, and learn---all at the same time!
It is not developmentally appropriate for them to be stationary for so long nor is it comfortable and feasible. Some people, children and adults need to move or wiggle throughout the day; and, if that can help them learn better and be more focused, without distracting their peers, I should do everything in my power to help them.
With this project, I will be able to give my students the opportunity to move in class, to be comfortable, to have flexible seating. Imagine that student who just can't sit still, but is still an eager learner. Imagine how hard it is for him or her to stay still and focused---all of his or her energy is focused on staying still! There's no more energy in the reserve to focus on academics...Now, picture that same child...sitting on a wobble chair...not worrying about keeping still...and COMPLETELY focused on what the teacher is teaching. You know that child who isn't an avid reader? The one who doesn't want to read...let him or her pick out a book that is just right and send him or her off to the Big Joe Cuddle chair and watch the magic happen!
