My students need Move-NG with Kinect to learn reading skills, as well as math skills. In addition, this will improve hand-eye coordination and gross motor skills.
Kindergarteners are a rare and wiggly breed. They need to move! They love to move. And they love to learn! Finding a tool to integrate movement and learning is key for success and motivation. "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." -Benjamin Franklin
My school is a Title I school, with nearly 700 students.
Most of the 22 kindergarteners in my classroom come from a high poverty background, with nearly 90% receiving free or reduced lunches. My children are eager to learn and are very high achievers. They are easily motivated; however, they are still very young. They are easily distracted, and they have a difficult time being seated for long.
The greatest part about my kids is that they are genuinely funny and caring. They are truly amazing little people who would love to learn through such vivid technology.
My Project
By incorporating the Move-NG into my classroom, my students will be encouraged to keep moving. The more they move, they more they will learn with this amazing technology. The children will be fully engaged, learning both reading skills and math skills, as well as honing gross motor skills. The Move-NG software, along with Kinect by Microsoft, allows the children to see themselves on the screen. This is incredibly exciting for the children. Even more than that, the children get to use their very own arms as controls. For kindergarten aged children, I am not sure how much more motivating that can get! As a teacher, this will be easy to observe and monitor, as well as assess. I want to provide my students with rich opportunities that will encourage them to love school and be motivated to learn each and every day. Technology is just the thing to get my little learners moving and learning!
By supporting this project, you will be helping 22 kindergarten students fulfill their active days with reading and math games.
They will be learning in so many areas, and it won't even seem like work to them! Students will develop better gross motor skills, as well as continued success with reading and math skills. You will be providing low income children with an experience like none other. Their kindergarten year will be filled with active learning!
