My Students
60% of the students in my class lost their homes and belongings in Hurricane Harvey. In addition, they lost their classroom too. We began school a month later than planned at a local church in town.
My students are brave and adaptable.
These are just a few words I could use to describe them. They have embraced this year and have made the best out of the traumatic time in their short little lives. I cannot say enough good things about this sweet little class.
My Project
Our school was flooded in Hurricane Harvey. Our big books and their storage container were covered in mold when I got into my classroom to clean it out. It broke my heart.
Big books are such an important part of Kindergarten.
I take pride in exposing my students to a print-rich environment. It is developmentally appropriate to read lots of books to Kindergarten students. I use the big books to teach parts of a book, page numbers, titles, sight word recognition, sentence structure, and much more. My students would benefit greatly if we were able to replace our big books supply and have a sturdy place to store them.
