We are students in a Title One school in South Carolina. About 65% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. We are always trying to come up with new ways to build the background knowledge and world experiences for the students in our classroom.
My students are special because they are a group of tender-hearted kids who have a true love for learning.
They love to explore and use activities to learn new concepts and ideas. They enjoy reading centers & playing sight word games. We have some of the most thoughtful kids in this class and they cannot wait to get new items to encourage their learning.
My Project
My first grade students absolutely LOVE the Elephant & Piggie books written by Mo Willems. These books are engaging, funny, and provide lots of teachable moments! Having a large selection of these will allow me to grow my classroom library and will also allow more students to have the opportunity to read them throughout the day.
Mo Willems is an author that can be read and understood at any level!
His books allow students to engage in conversations about characters, text, speech bubbles, punctuation, and so much more. These books are always the first to be checked out and leave many students disappointed. Funding this project would make my students VERY happy!
