My students need flexible seating items such as wobble chairs, wobble cushions and balance balls to allow student choice for improving their focus, which leads to the overall improvement of student learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
On a daily basis we ask students to leave the comforts of their homes and focus for eight hours a day. We take away their security blankets and leave them open to vulnerabilty and ask them to give us everything in return. How can we expect that? In my classroom, I believe in providing a safe space for my students to do their best possible learning. If I can bring comfort and security in some way to my classroom, maybe my students would bring even more to their daily hours spent on learning.
I work in a school system where students do not have much, but they give absolutely everything that they have.
My goal is to ensure that each day I have my students; I give them the best possible day and learning environment that they could have. My school is one of many elementary schools in our district; however, it is the lowest on the poverty scale when it comes to our students. 98% of our students fall below the poverty line. Nearly all of students qualify for free or reduced lunches. Given the chance, my students will do whatever you ask of them!
My Project
Each day we ask our students to sit through about seven hours of classwork, usually at a desk. Have you ever tried sitting at a desk for hours on end and successfully stayed focused? It isn't nearly as easy as it seems. After realizing that my students needed a change, I began researching the benefits of flexible seating. I found that flexible seating could increase my students' overall interest and focus in learning. I decided then that I would begin my journey of adding flexible seating to my classroom.
I want my students to chooe how they can better focus their learning with the help of flexible seating.
I plan to do this with the materials I have requested. I will fully implement flexible seating and begin the removal of some of my desks in my classroom. This will allow for the space of these new items. I hope to create a new environment for learning that will be comfortable and inviting. The Wobble Chairs, Cushions, and Balance Balls are excellent for those students who need to keep the rest of their bodies busy while their brains are hard at work. I also found that some of my children might need more comfort to focus, so I selected items such as the reclining picnic seats and stools.
Overall, I believe that each of these items will allow me to move to a completed room of flexible seating. I will have enough variety of items that students will be able to select what best suits their individual needs for learning. Desks will no longer be a requirement, but a choice if my students should want them. Finally, I hope that my students overall participation and content understanding will improve because they are no longer worried about their learning environment.
