Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The neighborhood where our students live is not in the best area, and despite the challenges our students encounter, they look forward to coming to school. Our school is known for assisting students of multi nationalities who speak different languages and are learning to embrace education as a key to future success. Every student, regardless of their background, should be welcomed and know that school is a safe haven where they can come to learn and develop life saving skills and friendships. Greeting each student with a warm smile lets students know that they will have a rewarding learning day.
I will be teaching 1st grade in the coming school year at a Title I school in Las Vegas where 100% of our students receive free breakfast, lunch, snack and some even need to take a weekend sack.
Despite some challenges and hardships, every student should begin their day by feeling loved and confident to learn and try their best.
My Project
With the Fire 7 Tablets my first graders will be able to listen to books and learn along with the school programs provided to learn. As most of our students come with lack of technology and resources, it is up to me to ensure that they are exposed to it and become computer savvy.
I have seen children acquire background knowledge by exposure to informational text, and visuals are key in learning.
Since we are faced with budget cuts, we are limited from having enough text books for the whole class.
We also need the kid proof cases so we don't have to have students feel bad if they accidentally drop it and it gets damaged. We want to motivate children to share and learn from one another and build self-esteem.
