My students need classroom furniture; our student desks are falling apart. It seems like daily a student sits at a desk and a part falls off (like the seat). Students can't learn without safe, comfortable desks.
Picturesque, peaceful, serene, God's country. All of these are used to describe the region in which my school is located in North Idaho. But opportunities for my students do not abound in this beautiful area. Remote, rural schools are some of the most financially-challenged schools in the country. I work at a very small 6-12 secondary school on a reservation; this school is 100% free and reduced lunch, very high poverty, and extremely financially challenged. These students need - and deserve - all the help you can give.
I work at a very high poverty school where students often feel forgotten and second class. These chairs and desks will make a huge difference in my students' perception of their classroom as well as their ability to focus because their student desks won't be falling apart. In addition, in this mixed math and science classroom, it is difficult to do science labs in individual student desks because the desk tops are not flat. Choosing tables instead of desks drastically increases the functionality of the student seating space. These tables and chairs will make all the difference in making my classroom safe and functional.
