My school is an urban, public school in Chicago that reflects the diversity of the neighborhood it serves. At our school there are a total of 37 languages spoken, and over 90% of our population is low-income. We celebrate diversity and build understanding through our unique and shared stories. We believe that every individual is a work of art who brings value to our community.
My special education students are kind, creative, and inquisitive learners who are eager to try new things, despite the hardships that they face outside of school.
These students come to school each day eager to connect with each other, and demonstrate an amazing work ethic to surpass their personal and academic goals. Though these challenges may impact their home life, we do our best to make sure it does not affect their life at school. This can be difficult with limited access to resources, which is why your help is so valued.
My Project
My amazing 3rd-5th grade special education students are incredibly hard working and engaged learners. Our classroom thrives with rich discussions, friendly discourse, and engaging hands-on activities. Our classroom was fortunate enough to receive many new high-interest books for special education students, but due to a limited access to resources, we need support organizing and furnishing our new classroom library.
Your support on this project will help create a warm, welcoming classroom library that is accessible for all students by helping us purchase a new bookshelf and bins to organize our new books, and seating options where we can comfortably immerse ourselves in the text.
As we transition back into the classroom in the near future, my special education students will be in even greater need of a safe place to gather with their friends and teachers. We will have a lot of catching up to do, but I know that the possibilities of what my students can achieve is endless! Thank you for your support!
