My students are energetic, athletic and eager for a safe outlet to play and grow. As a Physical Education teacher in a school with a very diverse population, in a very tough neighborhood my students often don't get a chance to participate in after school sports and activities. For some the only physical activity they have during the day is PE class. Many of our students are overweight and do not follow healthy diets outside of school. In the long run, this can lead to serious health problems such as obesity, Heart Disease and Diabetes. We are asking for exercise balls that students will use to do different workouts, as well as a catch and balance set that will help us work together as a team. Lastly, multi colored basketballs to help with our basketball unit.
The goal of this project is to replenish our old PE equipment with new, more up to date and interesting equipment that will revitalize our PE program and motivate our students to participate in more interesting games and activities, and in turn develop a culture of lifelong health and wellness in our students.
My Project
These materials will allow more of our students to be physically active for longer periods of time. Due to budget cuts our PE program does not receive much funding. The equipment we have is old and students see that. In order to reinvigorate our PE program we need some new equipment to excite our students. We often have 50-70 students in the gymnasium at a time and the more equipment we have to use the more active they will be. We also see all levels of students and some of this equipment can be used for our special education population. We are asking for exercise balls that students will use to do different workouts, as well as a catch and balance set that will help us work together as a team. Lastly, we would like multi colored basketballs to help with our basketball unit.
