Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"The dream is free, but the hustle is sold separately" -unknown
This motivational quote has become part of my teaching philosophy.
I teach five sections of English courses. My students come from diverse social, economic and cultural backgrounds. Some of them are first generation citizens, while others have recently left their home countries and moved to the United States. They love creative projects that utilize technology and that are student driven. For this reason, I create inquiry-based units to motivate them to explore complex issues that are relevant to their lives.
My Project
As an educator, it is important to find new ways for students to take ownership of their learning using 21st-century technology.
In my experience podcast and video assignments, allow students to practice expressing their ideas particularly those who are shy and are reluctant to participate in class discussions.
These type of assignments encourage creativity and insight a deeper understanding of the text.
With your donation, students will use the compressed microphones to create and edit short videos and podcast. These microphones are compatible with popular smartphones models, which will facilitate the editing process. In addition, students will gain experience using audio equipment for beginners.
